EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Dawn light comes to a sleeping world without being asked for, and awakening arrives the same way. No thought produces it. It visits, out of a tenderness toward people who could never climb to it themselves.

When that light reaches a person, the long night of compulsive thinking thins, and the darkness mistaken for reality is seen as darkness. A presence no one manufactured dawns within, and in its growing light a room hidden all night becomes visible.

Live Luke 1:78 today

  1. Wake up and resist reaching for the screen for the first five minutes. Let the day come to you instead of chasing it.
  2. Instead of giving advice to someone who is struggling, sit with them and let the understanding show up on its own. Some things clear up in company, not in explanation.
  3. When a problem will not solve at your desk, stop pushing. Walk out to get coffee or ride the elevator down, and let the answer show up when your grip loosens.

What have I been straining to produce that might simply arrive if I stopped?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching

The Way does nothing by force, yet nothing is left undone, and what grows cannot be hurried by pulling at it. Light comes the way grass grows, on its own.

Zen

Teachers describe awakening as sudden and unearned, more like being caught by the light than like building it. Your sitting only clears the window.

Sufism · Rumi

Rumi says the wound is where the light gets in, and the gift arrives through the opening you did not make. You cannot manufacture the dawn, only stay unshuttered.
