CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
What has ruled a mind as though it were a power in heaven is seen, in a single instant of clear sight, to have no place there at all. The belief in separation looked like the highest thing, enthroned and unquestionable, until the mind turned to love and watched it drop. Its fall is not a battle won but an illusion recognized, and what recognizes it does so as swiftly as light, because truth needs no time to undo what was never true.
A mind that has feared this power for so long forgets it was only ever a thought it agreed to keep. When it withdraws that agreement, the thing it dreaded does not fight; it simply ceases to hold the sky. The final release is this quiet certainty: fear held its throne only by permission, and the mind that gave the throne can take it back.
Satan: the belief in separation that sets itself up as a ruling power in the mind, the ego enthroned as if it were real. Lightning: the instant of true perception, the shift that undoes a long illusion in no time at all. Heaven: the mind's own high place, the seat of what it treats as ultimate truth.

ESOTERIC
The moment awareness climbs into the higher mind, the adversary within loses its high seat and drops. Satan is the flesh-bound resistance, the opposing pull that keeps a person turned toward the lower self; when the light reaches the crown, that pull cannot hold its place and falls from the head like a bolt let go. The fall is sudden because the presence of real awareness leaves the counter-force nothing to stand on.
Heaven here is the top of the head, the seat of the awakened mind. When it fills with light, the accusing lower drive is thrown down out of it, quick as lightning, and no longer rules the thoughts from above.
Satan: the flesh-bound opposing force within a person, the pull that resists the rising light Lightning: the sudden, total speed with which the lower drive is cast down once awareness reaches the crown Heaven: the crown of the head, the high seat the adversary loses when consciousness ascends

PSYCHOANALYSIS
Every image of pure goodness hides a darker half, pushed out of sight and set high above the everyday self. It can stay there for years. Then comes a sudden flash of understanding, bright as lightning, and the dark half breaks loose and drops into view.
What a person watches in that moment is their own cruelty and pride coming into the open. These things were never in the sky. They belonged to the self all along, and the lightning is the shock of seeing them. Once the dark side is seen, it can finally be dealt with instead of denied.
Christian Psychology lens
What have I been obeying as if it were powerful, without ever checking?
Mara's armies arrive looking unbeatable, and they dissolve the moment they are seen clearly for what they are. Nothing was fought, only recognized.
In dim light a rope on the path is a snake, and the fear is real while it lasts. Bring a lamp and the snake does not run away, it was never there.
A dream of falling ends the instant you wake, and no time is needed to climb back up. Waking is not a repair, it is a seeing.
