Luke 17:19 Meaning Then He Said to Him

Then he said to him, “Get up, and go your way. Your faith has healed you.”

What does Luke 17:19 mean?

Wholeness was not conferred from outside but uncovered from within, and this is the correction the mind most needs to hear. Nothing was added to the man; a false belief in his own brokenness was simply set down, and the trust that let him set it down is what the word faith means here.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Wholeness was not conferred from outside but uncovered from within, and this is the correction the mind most needs to hear. Nothing was added to the man; a false belief in his own brokenness was simply set down, and the trust that let him set it down is what the word faith means here. He was made whole because he was willing to see himself as whole.

So the mind is told to rise and go, no longer a supplicant waiting to be fixed, but one who has learned that its own willingness is the instrument of every healing. What looked like a cure worked upon him was really a choice made within him, the quiet consent to accept that he was never truly sick at all.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

To be made whole is not to have your circumstances rearranged. It is the ending of an inner division, the healing of the split between you and this moment, between the small anxious self and the deeper Being that you are.

Faith, in its truest sense, is not belief in an idea. It is a deep inward yes, a trust that releases resistance and lets life move through you. Wholeness was not handed to him from outside. It arose the instant his trust let the resistance fall away, so that nothing in him remained divided against life.

Live Luke 17:19 today

  1. Catch one sentence you say about yourself as if it were a fact, "I'm just bad at this," and set it down for the day. See what you do without it.
  2. Stop waiting for someone else's approval before you act like a whole person. Make the decision, send the thing, and do not run it past anyone for permission you do not actually need.
  3. When pressure hits and the old story says you cannot handle it, do the next ordinary thing anyway. You are not being fixed in that moment, you are finding out you were not broken.

What am I waiting to be given that I could simply stop refusing?

You were never the broken thing you took yourself to be. What you are looking for is what is doing the looking.

Zen tradition

Nothing is added in waking up, and nothing was ever missing. You put down a mistaken idea about yourself, that is all.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

No one can hand you a steady mind; it was always yours to claim. The power you keep waiting for has been in your own keeping the whole time.
