Luke 2:19 Meaning But Mary Kept All These Sayings

But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.

What does Luke 2:19 mean?

While others speak and scatter, one mind keeps still and holds what it has been given, and this stillness is itself the miracle. To ponder in the heart is not to analyze with the intellect that measures and compares; it is to let a truth settle below the level of fear, where the ego cannot argue it away.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

While others speak and scatter, one mind keeps still and holds what it has been given, and this stillness is itself the miracle. To ponder in the heart is not to analyze with the intellect that measures and compares; it is to let a truth settle below the level of fear, where the ego cannot argue it away. The mind that does this is not deciding whether the gift is real. It is making room.

Much is lost because it is spoken too soon, defended too quickly, turned into opinion. What is kept quietly can grow. Love teaches best in a mind that has stopped rushing to explain itself.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

She did not explain what happened, shape it into a story to repeat, or decide what it meant. She kept it, and keeping is love holding something precious rather than thought filing it away. Pondering let it rest in the quiet space of awareness instead of the noisy space of thought.

Such depth asks nothing of a person but patience. Something large happens, and instead of being pressed into a concept it stays alive and keeps revealing itself. The mind wants a quick verdict. Presence can wait.

Live Luke 2:19 today

  1. Hold one good thing today without telling anyone, not a post, not a text. Keep it for a day and see what it becomes when it is not performed.
  2. In your next conversation, let a pause sit there instead of filling it. The other person often says the real thing in the second half of the silence.
  3. When someone says something that makes you want to correct them immediately, wait. Pressure makes us rush to explain ourselves, and almost nothing is lost by answering an hour later.

What have you been talking about so much that you have never actually sat with it?

Tao Te Ching 56

The one who knows does not chatter, and the chatterer does not know. What is spoken too soon escapes before it can take root.

Judaism · Pirkei Avot

Silence has been called the best safeguard for wisdom. A word held back is a word still growing.

Zen

An experience explained too quickly becomes an opinion and stops teaching. Sit with it until it sinks beneath the part of you that argues.
