Luke 2:46 Meaning After Three Days They Found Him

After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the middle of the teachers, both listening to them, and asking them questions.

What does Luke 2:46 mean?

The temple is the body, and the child found within it is the newly quickened higher self taking its rightful seat in the center of a person. The number 3 is the span through which the lower nature loses the light and then recovers it, the same 3 days that later mark the descent and rising.

The temple is the body, and the child found within it is the newly quickened higher self taking its rightful seat in the center of a person. The number 3 is the span through which the lower nature loses the light and then recovers it, the same 3 days that later mark the descent and rising. The doctors are the reasoning faculties, the mind's accumulated learning, and the young Christ sits in their midst, questioning what they hold.

The higher self does not arrive already finished; it grows by testing the mind's stored knowledge against its own inner sight. Found in the center of its own house, it begins to master the faculties it will one day rule.

Temple: the body of a person, the house in which the higher self is found 3 days: the span through which the light is lost to the lower nature and then recovered Doctors: the reasoning faculties and stored learning gathered at the center of the mind

  1. When you catch yourself repeating an opinion you have held for years, stop and ask where it actually came from. Let the quiet part of you interview the part that always has an answer ready.
  2. In your next conversation, ask one real question instead of offering what you know. Sit in the middle of someone else's expertise and be curious rather than impressive.
  3. In a meeting where you feel the pressure to sound certain, say "I want to ask about something" and mean it. The steadiest person in the room is often the one still asking.

What belief of yours have you never once questioned?

The same truth in other traditions

Zen

A student brings years of study to the teacher and is asked to set it all down and look at what is actually here. The learning is not thrown away, it is held up against direct seeing and tested.

Upanishads

The deepest self is already seated in the cave of the heart, waiting to be found rather than built. Everything the mind has gathered is questioned in its presence.

Tao Te Ching 48

In the pursuit of learning, something is added every day. In the pursuit of the way, something is dropped every day, until what is left is what was always there.
