Luke 2:7 Meaning She Gave Birth to Her Firstborn Son

She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn.

What does Luke 2:7 mean?

This is your own birth, not a scene from long ago. The firstborn son is the awakened awareness of God brought forth from within you, and the whole account is your autobiography being fulfilled rather than history remembered.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

This is your own birth, not a scene from long ago. The firstborn son is the awakened awareness of God brought forth from within you, and the whole account is your autobiography being fulfilled rather than history remembered. The manger, a feeding place among animals, is the lowly human state where this awakening first stirs, wrapped and hidden while it is still small.

The inn had no room because the crowded outer life, full of its noise and its business, has no space for the new self. The birth happens off to the side, unnoticed, in the quiet where the senses are not clamoring. What is born is not a physical child but the second birth from the skull of ordinary man, the awareness waking from the dream of life. It comes into the humblest place in you, because the highest thing in you enters where nothing else was making room.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The birth is the first stirring of the higher self within a person, and it comes not into the crowded rooms of the mind but into the lowest and plainest place. The inn is the ordinary consciousness, packed full of the day's noise and appetites, with no space left for anything new; so the fresh awareness is laid in the manger, the humble animal trough, meaning it takes its first breath among the bodily and lower faculties rather than in the busy upper mind. The swaddling bands are the wrapping of flesh that binds any newborn state until it can move on its own.

What is born of you begins small and low, in the quiet unregarded part of yourself, because the loud and full part had no room to receive it.

Firstborn son: the first birth of the higher self within a person, awareness newly come to life Swaddling clothes: the wrappings of flesh that bind and hold a newborn state of mind until it can stand alone Manger: the lowly animal trough, the humble bodily faculties where new awareness first draws breath Inn: the ordinary crowded consciousness, so full of the day's noise it leaves no room for the new

Live Luke 2:7 today

  1. Leave twenty minutes of your day with nothing in it. No phone, no podcast, no tidying. Something in you needs a room nobody booked.
  2. At dinner or on a call, let a silence sit instead of filling it. The real thing in a conversation usually arrives in the gap.
  3. When the day is packed and you are being pulled in six directions, drop one thing on purpose rather than squeezing. A crowded life has no room for anything new to be born in it.

What has been waiting for room you have not made yet?

Tao Te Ching 11

The clay is useful because of the empty space inside it. A room works because of the hollow, not the walls.

Zen

An empty cup can be filled. A full one has nothing to offer but spilling.

Chuang Tzu

The useless tree is the one left standing. What the world has no place for is what gets to live.
