Luke 21:36 Meaning Therefore Be Watchful All the Time

Therefore be watchful all the time, praying that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.

What does Luke 21:36 mean?

You know how the mind runs ahead into every possible calamity, how it manufactures dread about things that may never happen, and how this constant low hum of anxiety quietly drains the life out of your days. To watch and pray always is not to add another worry to the pile.

Ego v. Being

You know how the mind runs ahead into every possible calamity, how it manufactures dread about things that may never happen, and how this constant low hum of anxiety quietly drains the life out of your days. To watch and pray always is not to add another worry to the pile. It is the opposite. It is to stay so awake in the present that the mind's storm of imagined futures loses its grip on you.

Prayer, in its deepest sense, is not a stream of requests sent into the future. It is a way of remaining present, an unbroken openness to what is, a stillness the changing world cannot shake. To stand before the truth of your own being, undisturbed as things come and go, is what it means to escape. You do not escape by fleeing. You escape by being so rooted in the now that the passing turmoil moves through without carrying you away. Awake and quiet within, you meet whatever comes standing on ground that nothing can take from you.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

To watch is to meditate, the steady inward attention held while the mind quiets, and to stand before the Son of man is to come into the presence of Uranus, the higher octave of consciousness awakening at the crown. The things that come to pass are the upheavals of the lower nature, the storms that break as a person changes within. Watchfulness carries awareness through those passages so that it is not swept away but arrives, upright and prepared, before the higher mind. This is the practice of holding attention until the ordinary self can face its own higher awareness without being undone.

Son of man: Uranus, the higher octave of consciousness rising at the crown.

Live Luke 21:36 today

  1. When you wake at 3am with the mind running every bad outcome, put a hand on your chest and follow your breathing until morning comes or sleep does. You do not have to solve anything right now.
  2. When someone shares a worry, stay quiet and present with them instead of jumping to reassurance or worse scenarios. Being calm beside them does more than any advice.
  3. Before a hard meeting or a call you have been dreading, take three slow breaths in the hallway. Walk in standing in this minute, not in the one you have been imagining all week.

What future are you living in today, and what is actually here instead?

Stoicism · Seneca

We suffer more in imagination than in reality. The mind runs ahead and builds disasters that never arrive, then charges you rent for them.

Buddhism

The breath is a place to stand. When fear about the future pulls at you, come back to this inhale and this exhale, again and again.

The still water reflects clearly. A mind at rest meets whatever comes without being swept off by it.
