Luke 21:4 · World English Bible
for all these put in gifts for God from their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, put in all that she had to live on.
The rich give from what they will not miss, and this is how the ego gives, offering the world a portion while keeping safe the self it truly guards. Such giving costs nothing, and what costs nothing changes nothing in the mind.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
The rich give from what they will not miss, and this is how the ego gives, offering the world a portion while keeping safe the self it truly guards. Such giving costs nothing, and what costs nothing changes nothing in the mind. It is a gesture toward love that carefully protects the fear underneath.
But the mind that gives all its living has withheld no corner of itself, and this is what forgiveness asks. To cast in everything is to release the last defense, to let go even of the poverty one clung to as a self. The offering that empties the giver is the only one that frees, for a gift held back leaves the giver still bound to what was kept.
Abundance: the surplus the ego offers while guarding the self it truly values, a giving that costs nothing and frees nothing Penury: the emptied and undefended state of a mind that has kept no corner of itself back All the living: the whole self surrendered without reserve, the complete release that alone sets the giver free
Christian Psychology lens
What last corner of myself am I still guarding, and what is it guarding me from?
To study the way is to study the self, and to study the self is to forget the self. What is forgotten was the thing doing all the holding.
The way forward is by subtraction, not addition. Keep taking away until there is nothing left to defend, and what remains acts without strain.
A raft carries you across the river, then you leave it on the bank. Even the thing that saved you becomes a burden if you insist on carrying it.
