Luke 22:18 Meaning For I Tell You

for I tell you, I will not drink at all again from the fruit of the vine, until God’s Kingdom comes.

What does Luke 22:18 mean?

The cup is refused for now because the mind is fixed on a joy the present form cannot yet hold. The fruit of the vine is a foretaste, a sign of the gladness that belongs to union, and it is set down until the fullness it promises has actually come.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The cup is refused for now because the mind is fixed on a joy the present form cannot yet hold. The fruit of the vine is a foretaste, a sign of the gladness that belongs to union, and it is set down until the fullness it promises has actually come. This is not denial but expectancy, the mind unwilling to settle for the shadow when the substance is so close.

The kingdom comes whenever the mind lays down its belief in separation and remembers it was never alone. In that hour the promise the cup carried is kept, and what was tasted only in part is known in full.

Cup: the vessel of shared gladness, the mind's readiness to receive the joy that belongs to union rather than the fragment it settles for in the dream. Fruit of the vine: the foretaste of that joy, the sweetness of love sampled in part while the mind waits to know it whole.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

The kingdom of God shall come, and the mind, bound to time, at once turns this into a promise about the future, a day still ahead when all will be made right. So we wait, and in our waiting we miss the only place the kingdom ever arrives.

For it comes not on some future morning but in any moment you awaken from the dream of thought into pure presence. The fruit of the vine, like all the sweetness of life, is fully tasted only then, when you are truly here for it. The kingdom comes the instant you stop postponing your own aliveness.

Live Luke 22:18 today

  1. When you reach for your phone out of a small hunger today, pause and ask what you were actually hungry for. Then give yourself that instead, even if it is only five quiet minutes.
  2. When a conversation starts to go deep and you feel the urge to lighten it with a joke, let it stay deep a little longer. The real thing was right there.
  3. Under stress, when the quick comfort appears, the snack, the scroll, the extra drink, name it as a sample and not the meal. You can still have it, just without pretending it is enough.

What small comfort am I settling for when I actually want the whole thing?
