Luke 23:46 Meaning Jesus

Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” Having said this, he breathed his last.

What does Luke 23:46 mean?

Here a mind lays down the last defense and hands itself back to its Source, holding nothing in reserve. To give the spirit into the Father's keeping is to stop guarding a self that was never in danger, to trust that what one is cannot be lost by releasing the grip of fear.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Here a mind lays down the last defense and hands itself back to its Source, holding nothing in reserve. To give the spirit into the Father's keeping is to stop guarding a self that was never in danger, to trust that what one is cannot be lost by releasing the grip of fear.

What is surrendered is not life but the small breath of the ego, the labored effort to stay separate. A mind that gives this up finds it had lost nothing, for only the illusion of a self apart from Love can end, and what returns to the Father was always safely there.

Hands: the keeping of the Father, the safe holding of Love into which the mind returns what it thought it had to guard alone Ghost: the borrowed breath of separate selfhood, the ego's effort to live apart that the mind finally lets go

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

There is a letting go you have practiced in small ways all your life, at the edge of sleep, in moments of exhaustion when you finally stop trying to hold everything together and simply release. To commend your spirit is the fullest form of that release, the total surrender of the small self that grips and clings and insists on control. It is the deepest yes a person can say, the yes that holds nothing back.

What is given up here is not truly you. It is the identification with the passing form, the ghost of the ego that mistook itself for the whole of life. When that is surrendered into hands greater than your own, what remains is not annihilation but the vast awareness that was always underneath, untouched by any ending. You practice this every time you loosen your grip, every time you trust the ground of being enough to fall into it. The final surrender is only the last of countless small ones. In letting go completely, you find the one thing letting go can never lose.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Death here is not the end of a body but the release of an old state. A man holds an assumption about who he is, and one day he lets it go, handing it back to the one power that gave it life. That power is his own imagination, the maker of every condition he has ever lived in. To commend the spirit into those hands is to stop clinging to the identity that has run its course.

What looks like defeat is a handing-over. The old self dissolves so a new one can be assumed. Nothing worth keeping is lost when a state ends; only the state ends. A person becomes the next thing he agrees to be, and the letting-go is the doorway. That is how one life closes and another opens inside the same man.

Live Luke 23:46 today

  1. Take the worry you have been turning over all week and deliberately set it down for an hour. Not solved, just released. See whether anything you actually needed falls apart.
  2. Let someone else handle something their way without your corrections, the dinner, the directions, the plan. Your grip was never what made it work.
  3. When a deadline or a hard conversation arrives and you tense to defend yourself, unclench your jaw, breathe out, and go in without armor. Say the true thing and let it land.

What am I guarding so hard that I have forgotten it was never actually in danger?

Water yields and gets everywhere. Giving up the grip is not weakness, it is how the thing actually moves.

Bhagavad Gita 2

Do the work in front of you and release the outcome, since the holding on was never what kept you safe.

The moment you stop defending the little self, you find you were being carried the whole time you thought you were holding on.
