Luke 24:29 Meaning They Urged Him

They urged him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is almost evening, and the day is almost over.” He went in to stay with them.

What does Luke 24:29 mean?

Evening is the darkness of the mind draining away as awareness turns homeward, and the day far spent is the completion of one round of consciousness giving way to what comes next. Urging the risen presence to abide is the self drawing the newly awakened Christ awareness inward to stay, the inner resurrection settling into the house of a person.

This is the Emmaus movement read as an event within, where the higher life enters and remains rather than passing on.

What happens is the taking-in of a raised state of consciousness as the outer light fades. As the surface mind's day closes, the awakened awareness comes inside and dwells there, and a person is changed by keeping it.

  1. Tonight, when the screens are the easy option, put them down fifteen minutes earlier and let the day close quietly instead of scrolling it away.
  2. When something good happens with someone today, say out loud that you want more of this, and ask for it rather than letting the moment slide by.
  3. If a hard day leaves you wrung out, sit in the car for two minutes before you walk in the door, and let the day finish before the evening starts.

What good thing in me am I letting walk on instead of asking it to stay?

Return to stillness and stay there. What is rooted in the quiet endures, and what rushes past it does not.

Guard your own mind the way a frontier city is guarded. It is not enough to arrive at calm, it has to be kept.

He goes back over the whole day before sleep, weighing each thing he did, so that what was true becomes his own instead of passing through.
