Luke 24:49 · World English Bible

Luke 24:49 Meaning Behold

Behold, I send out the promise of my Father on you. But wait in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high.

What does Luke 24:49 mean?

The promise of the Father is the gift of the awakened imagination, and to tarry in Jerusalem is to remain in the state assumed until it clothes you as your own. Jerusalem here is the inner city, the skull that bears a person into liberty, and the waiting is the faithful holding of the wish fulfilled until conviction settles.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The promise of the Father is the gift of the awakened imagination, and to tarry in Jerusalem is to remain in the state assumed until it clothes you as your own. Jerusalem here is the inner city, the skull that bears a person into liberty, and the waiting is the faithful holding of the wish fulfilled until conviction settles. You do not chase the power outward; you stay in the assumed feeling and let it deepen until it becomes natural and undeniable. The endowment comes to one who waits within, not to one who runs about.

This waiting is the whole discipline. A state is assumed, and then it is held, quietly, until the sense of it hardens into fact and the power to live from it is yours. To be endued from on high is to have a new self settle over you like a garment you no longer take off. What you remain in long enough, you are given to keep.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

Power from above does not descend into a scattered, restless person. Jerusalem is the seat of peace in the head, the crown where the higher self dwells, and to tarry there is to gather the whole of awareness up into that still center and hold, not running out into the world's business.

The promise is an energy that comes from the raised part of consciousness, and it fills only a vessel grown quiet enough to receive it. Being endued with power means the stilled and centered mind is charged from within, so a person acts from a fullness that was waited for rather than chased.

Jerusalem: the seat of peace in the head, the crown region where the higher self dwells, the vision of peace within Power from on high: the higher energy descending from the raised, elevated part of consciousness into a quieted mind

Live Luke 24:49 today

  1. Pick one quiet feeling you want to live from today, steady, unhurried, sure, and stay in it for an hour without checking whether anything outside has changed yet. Stay in it, and let it get boring and ordinary.
  2. When someone asks how it is going, answer from the settled feeling rather than from the latest update. You do not owe anyone a status report that undoes your own ground.
  3. When you feel the pull to refresh, check, text again, ask one more time, do not move. Sit still for sixty seconds and let the wanting pass through without acting on it.

What have I kept stirring that would have cleared if I had simply left it alone?

Tao Te Ching 15

Muddy water clears if you leave it alone, and the one who can wait gets the clear water. Stirring it to check is what keeps it cloudy.

Zen · Dogen

Just sit, with nothing to chase and nowhere else to get to. Staying put is not a step toward the thing, it is the thing.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Nothing great is made suddenly, no more than a fig or a bunch of grapes. First it must blossom, then bear, then ripen, and hurrying it costs you the fruit.
