Luke 5:32 Meaning I Have Not Come to Call

I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

What does Luke 5:32 mean?

Love does not seek out the mind that believes itself already whole and in need of nothing, for such a mind has closed the door through which help would come. It turns instead to the one that knows it has gone astray, because only there is there an opening.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Love does not seek out the mind that believes itself already whole and in need of nothing, for such a mind has closed the door through which help would come. It turns instead to the one that knows it has gone astray, because only there is there an opening. The sense of being a sinner is not a barrier to love; it is the very readiness love answers, the honest admission that something must change.

And the change asked for is not punishment but a turning of the mind. To repent is simply to think again, to lay down the belief in one's own guilt and let it be corrected, which is the only healing there ever was.

Live Luke 5:32 today

  1. Say one honest sentence to yourself about where you are getting it wrong lately, without softening it into something flattering. The admission is not the punishment, it is the door.
  2. In your next disagreement, in person or in a thread, actually try on the possibility that the other person is right. Ask one real question instead of building your counterpoint while they talk.
  3. When you are caught out at work and the instinct is to explain why it was fine, try the plain version instead, you are right, I missed that, here is what I will change. It costs less than the defense and it opens something.

Where am I so sure I am right that nothing new can reach me?

The usefulness of the cup is its emptiness. A mind already full of its own rightness has no room left for anything to enter.

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's mind there are few, because the expert has decided already.
