Luke 6:43 Meaning For There Is No Good Tree

For there is no good tree that produces rotten fruit; nor again a rotten tree that produces good fruit.

What does Luke 6:43 mean?

Nobody ever changed their output by managing it; the kind of tree decides what the branches can do. Anyone working to produce better results while remaining the same kind of person is fighting a law rather than a habit.

Nobody ever changed their output by managing it; the kind of tree decides what the branches can do.

Anyone working to produce better results while remaining the same kind of person is fighting a law rather than a habit. What a person is sets the state they live in, the state sets the emotion, the emotion drives the action, and the actions ripen into exactly the fruit that root could support.

Jesus offers this as a test rather than a verdict, which makes the harvest usable information for anyone willing to examine their own branches. A person who keeps pruning behaviour and never changes the kind will spend decades producing the same fruit and calling it bad luck.

Live Luke 6:43 today

  1. Take one behaviour you keep correcting and ask what kind of person would not have to correct it. Write one sentence about that person, not one more rule for yourself.
  2. The next time you manage your tone with someone instead of changing how you see them, say less and sit with the gap. The gap between your voice and your view is the actual work.
  3. When something ugly comes out under pressure today, do not go straight to damage control. Ask what it grew from, then tend that this week instead of trimming the same branch again.

Have you been pruning the branches for years, when the question was what kind of tree?

Tao Te Ching

The way to change what appears is to tend the root, not to arrange the leaves. What is settled at the source needs no managing at the surface.

Everything follows from the mind as the wheel follows the ox. Act from a changed mind and good follows like a shadow that cannot be shaken off.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

The quality of a life is set by the quality of what a person repeatedly thinks, because character is the soil and conduct is only what grows in it.
