Luke 6:8 · World English Bible

Luke 6:8 Meaning But He Knew Their Thoughts

But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Rise up, and stand in the middle.” He arose and stood.

What does Luke 6:8 mean?

Love sees straight through the watching, judging thoughts that gather around a mind, and rather than argue with them it calls the wounded part forward into full view. The hand drawn in and shriveled is the mind's own power to reach and give, withheld and gone lifeless from disuse.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Love sees straight through the watching, judging thoughts that gather around a mind, and rather than argue with them it calls the wounded part forward into full view. The hand drawn in and shriveled is the mind's own power to reach and give, withheld and gone lifeless from disuse. It is not hidden or protected any longer but brought openly into the midst, where healing can meet it in the sight of everything that would condemn it.

To rise and stand forth is to stop concealing the very place that fears exposure. The withered part is not shamed but summoned, and simply by coming into the light it begins to be restored to what it was.

Withered hand: the mind's power to reach and give, drawn in and made lifeless by fear, called forward to be restored The midst: the open center where what fears judgment is brought into full view, the place healing meets it unhidden

Live Luke 6:8 today

  1. Think of the thing about yourself you quietly keep out of sight, and instead of fixing it, just let yourself look at it for a minute without arguing. You do not have to solve it today, only stop pretending it is not there.
  2. Tell one person something small you normally edit out, maybe in a text or over dinner. Not a confession, just the honest version instead of the tidy one.
  3. When you are in a meeting or a group chat and feel the urge to hide that you are lost or behind, say it anyway in plain words. The silence you were protecting costs more than the admission.

What part of you have you been keeping folded in, and what would it be like to let it reach out today?

Tao Te Ching

What is rigid and closed stays brittle, and what opens stays alive. The hand held tight cannot receive and cannot give, so softening the grip is itself the healing.

Zen · Shunryu Suzuki

Nothing needs to be hidden from the teacher or from yourself, because the flaw you conceal is exactly the place practice works. Bring it out plainly and it stops running your life from the dark.

Sufism · Rumi

The wound is where the light enters. Keep it covered and it stays a wound, uncover it and it becomes the opening.
