Luke 8:11 Meaning Now the Parable Is This

Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

What does Luke 8:11 mean?

A seed carries no argument. It does not announce itself or explain what it will become.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

A seed carries no argument. It does not announce itself or explain what it will become. It falls into the ground and waits, holding within its small silence the whole shape of the plant to come. The word of God works this way. Not the loud words of the mind, but a quiet knowing that settles beneath the thoughts.

What lands in a person this way asks for stillness, not effort. The seed does nothing except get received by soil that has grown quiet enough to hold it. When the noise of wanting and worrying dies down, the ground is ready, and a living meaning takes root in the space where the thinking used to be.

Live Luke 8:11 today

  1. Before you reach for your phone in the morning, sit for two minutes with it face down. You are not trying to get anything. You are just letting the ground get quiet.
  2. The next time someone tells you something that matters to them, resist the urge to answer well. Let what they said sit in you for a few seconds before you speak, the way soil holds a seed.
  3. When a decision is pressing and your head is spinning with reasons, stop arguing with yourself. Go wash a dish or walk to the end of the block, and see what is still there when the noise drops.

What might already be growing in me that I keep digging up to inspect?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching 16

Return to stillness and you see how things actually grow. The quiet root, not the busy branch, is where life is decided.

Zen

A teacher was asked how he practiced. He said he eats when hungry and sleeps when tired. Nothing is added, and still the whole thing ripens.

Bhagavad Gita

The seed of all that is lives in every being, and it is found in the silence behind the restless mind, not in the mind's own noise.
