But Jesus hearing it, answered him, “Don’t be afraid. Only believe, and she will be healed.”

What does Luke 8:50 mean?

The message that a child is already dead is the ego's message in its purest form: the situation is beyond hope, love has come too late, and there is nothing to be done. To a mind that accepts this, all is finished.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The message that a child is already dead is the ego's message in its purest form: the situation is beyond hope, love has come too late, and there is nothing to be done. To a mind that accepts this, all is finished. The teacher of love answers the report of death before it can take root, telling the father not to give it his belief.

Only one thing is asked, and it is the whole of the correction: choose trust instead of fear. What looks like death is a figure in a dream, and a mind that refuses to be frightened by the dream leaves room for life to be restored. The father is not asked to do anything to his daughter; he is asked to change the teacher he listens to.

Daughter: the part of the self that seems lost to death, the innocence the mind fears it can no longer reach.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Fear arrives: not usually as danger in the present, but as the mind projecting forward into an imagined loss. It is almost always about a future that has not come, a story of what might happen, a picture the mind paints and then trembles before. In this moment, right now, you are here, breathing, alive. Yet the mind leaps ahead into its dark forecasts, and the body clenches around a catastrophe that exists only in thought.

The words fear not are not a demand to feel brave. They invite you to step out of the imagined future and return to the aliveness of now, where fear cannot easily live, because fear needs a time other than this instant to exist. And to believe only is not to grip a hopeful conclusion with the mind. It is to trust so completely that you release the anxious grasping altogether, resting in what is rather than bracing against what might be. Come back from the future. There is only ever this moment, and in it you are held.

  1. When the worst case arrives in your head at 11pm, name it as one possible story, not the news. You do not have to agree with it just because it showed up.
  2. If someone tells you a situation is hopeless, do not argue, just do not adopt it. Stay the person in the room who has not closed the door yet.
  3. Before you act on the alarming message, wait until you have one more piece of real information. Most emergencies shrink by half once you stop filling the gaps with fear.

Whose version of this situation have I been believing without checking?
