Luke 9:29 Meaning As He Was Praying

As he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became white and dazzling.

What does Luke 9:29 mean?

He does nothing here but pray, and the whole of him begins to shine. This is a quiet answer to the hunger for display, the itch to be admired.

SUFISM

Sufism

He does nothing here but pray, and the whole of him begins to shine. This is a quiet answer to the hunger for display, the itch to be admired. Real light cannot be painted on for others; it rises from within when the heart turns fully toward its Source in secret.

A face can grow bright the way a plain window blazes at dawn. The glass makes no light of its own; it only stops blocking what pours through it. A person turned wholly toward God becomes that clear.

Live Luke 9:29 today

  1. Take ten minutes today with no screen, no music, no one watching, and just be quiet. Nobody needs to hear about it afterward.
  2. Do the kind thing for someone today in a way that cannot be seen or posted. Let it land with them and go no further.
  3. When you catch yourself arranging how you come across, in the meeting, the thread, the photo, stop arranging and just answer the question in front of you.

How much of today was spent on being seen a certain way?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching 22

The one who does not put themselves on display is the one people see clearly. Shine on purpose and you dim.

Analects · Confucius

Confucius said the person of character works on what is inside and lets the outside follow. Seeking reputation is the wrong end of it.

Zen

Zen likens the mind to a mirror: it makes no light of its own, it just stops being dirty. The clearing is all the work there is.
