CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Clinical Psychology

The summons that changes a life comes from the wilderness, the place outside the walls where the familiar order gives out. That is fitting. Nothing new arrives from inside the settled world. The voice cries from the edge of chaos, and it does not offer comfort. It demands preparation, which means the crooked in a man must be made straight before anything higher can walk through him.

To prepare the way is to do the hard interior work first, to set right what is bent and clear what is blocked. The path is inward before it is anything else. Most people wait to be transformed and are surprised when nothing comes. Straighten what is crooked in yourself, and you become a road that something meaningful can travel.

Live Mark 1:3 today

  1. Take the first ten minutes of your commute with no podcast, no music, no scrolling. Let the mess in your head come up and sort itself a little instead of burying it under sound.
  2. There is one conversation you have been avoiding because it will be uncomfortable. Have it today, and go in to clear the blockage rather than to win.
  3. When you are stuck waiting, in traffic or in a grocery line, instead of reaching for the phone, ask yourself what one crooked thing in your week you could straighten before Friday. Then do that one thing.

What am I waiting to have happen to me that I could be preparing for instead?

Tao Te Ching 15

Muddy water clears when it is left alone and allowed to settle. Nothing can be seen clearly through it until then, and no amount of stirring helps.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

You carry your own retreat with you, and it is only as quiet as you have made it. Nobody can hand you an ordered inner life from outside.

Sufism · Rumi

The work is not to search the world for love but to pull down the walls you built against it. The obstruction was always on your side of the door.
