Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except one—God.

What does Mark 10:18 mean?

The mind that would locate goodness in one figure and not in itself still believes goodness is a scarce possession, held by some and lacking in others. But there is only one goodness, undivided and belonging to all, because there is only one Son sharing one Source.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The mind that would locate goodness in one figure and not in itself still believes goodness is a scarce possession, held by some and lacking in others. But there is only one goodness, undivided and belonging to all, because there is only one Son sharing one Source. To set another above oneself as good is to keep the belief in separation intact, merely rearranging who has and who has not.

The correction gently returns the seeker to the whole. Goodness is not a quality that distinguishes one mind from another; it is the single nature all minds share and only seem to have forgotten. To see it truly in another is to begin to recognize it as one's own, for what is good in one is good in all, being one.

Live Mark 10:18 today

  1. When you admire something in another person today, say to yourself that it exists in you too. Admiring from below keeps you small for no reason.
  2. Tell someone plainly what is good in them. Not flattery, one specific thing you have seen them do.
  3. In a meeting where someone's idea lands better than yours, let the good thing be good. You can be glad it exists without it being a score.

Who do I keep above me, and what does that save me from having to be?
