Mark 10:31 Meaning But Many Who Are First Will Be

But many who are first will be last; and the last first.

What does Mark 10:31 mean?

Every rank the world honors is measured by the ego, which crowns whoever seems most separate, most defended, most set above the rest. That whole ladder stands upside down, for the mind that climbs to be first is only fleeing farther from the equality in which it was created.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Every rank the world honors is measured by the ego, which crowns whoever seems most separate, most defended, most set above the rest. That whole ladder stands upside down, for the mind that climbs to be first is only fleeing farther from the equality in which it was created. What it calls winning is a deepening of the very belief that wounds it.

So the order reverses the moment love does the looking. The one who insisted on being above finds the height was empty, and the one who claimed nothing discovers there was nothing to claim, because all minds share the same worth. In truth there is no line dividing them at all, and seeing this is what sets the last ahead.

Live Mark 10:31 today

  1. When you catch yourself measuring where you stand against someone online or at work, name it quietly and let the comparison drop. You can scroll past without taking the score.
  2. Give credit away today where you could have taken it. Say someone else's name out loud in the room where it counts.
  3. When someone talks over you or takes the spot you wanted, let it go rather than evening it up. Being first in that room was never worth what it costs to hold.

If no one were keeping score, what would I stop doing today?

The river rules the valleys because it lies below them. Lowness is the position of strength, not the loss of it.

Buddhism

Ranking yourself is still suffering, whether you land above or below. The relief is in stepping off the ladder, not in climbing it better.

Who is honored? The one who honors others. The honor runs the opposite direction from where people look for it.
