Mark 13:21 Meaning Then If Anyone Tells You

Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘Look, there!’ don’t believe it.

What does Mark 13:21 mean?

The voice that points to a special place, insisting salvation is here or there in some form the eyes can find, is the ego promising rescue in the very world of separation that is the problem. Christ is not a figure standing somewhere to be located and seized; it is the wholeness of the mind itself, the memory of what was never divided.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The voice that points to a special place, insisting salvation is here or there in some form the eyes can find, is the ego promising rescue in the very world of separation that is the problem. Christ is not a figure standing somewhere to be located and seized; it is the wholeness of the mind itself, the memory of what was never divided. Any claim that it can be pinned to one spot keeps the seeker searching outward, and the search itself sustains the belief that he is not already home.

To believe such a voice not is to stop chasing the holy across a landscape and turn inward, where the thing sought has quietly waited the whole time.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The caution is against looking for your saving power in any location outside yourself. When a voice points to a place, a leader, a technique somewhere over there, it sends a person searching in the one direction where he will not find it. The power that answers desire has no address. No map locates it.

That power is the human imagination, the faculty by which a person pictures and feels what is not yet present. Nearer than any teacher, it cannot be pointed to across a room. To chase it outward is to keep missing what already moves within. A man carries the whole of his creative capacity inside his own awareness, and no finger pointing elsewhere can add to it or take it away.

AWARENESS

Indian Guru

Whenever truth is reported as being over there, in that man, in that scripture, the search has already gone wrong, because whatever can be pointed at is an object and consciousness is the one doing the pointing. Believing such a report is how a man postpones looking at himself for another lifetime.

Belief itself is the trap, not the false teachers. A borrowed conviction feels like knowing, costs nothing, and keeps the seeker running outward from one direction to the next. What is sought is nearer than the eyes doing the searching, available the moment thinking stops.

  1. Instead of opening one more app, book, or podcast promising the thing that will finally settle you, sit for five quiet minutes with nothing coming in.
  2. When a friend asks how you are, give a real answer instead of the one you have polished. The connection you are looking for is usually one honest sentence away.
  3. When you are stressed and the urge comes to buy, book, or move somewhere else to fix it, put the decision down for a day. The restlessness is not information about where you should be.

What have you been searching for in places far away from where you are standing?

Hinduism · Upanishads

What you have been seeking is the one doing the seeking. It was never somewhere else waiting to be reached.

Zen

A student wandered everywhere looking for the teaching and was told he was riding an ox while hunting for an ox. The search was the only thing hiding it.
