Mark 13:33 Meaning Watch

Watch, keep alert, and pray; for you don’t know when the time is.

What does Mark 13:33 mean?

You do not know when the decisive moment will come, so the mind's usual strategy of preparing for a known future event simply will not work here. Any attempt to calculate or predict the exact hour is thought spinning uselessly in the dark, since the information it wants was never going to be given.

Ego v. Being

You do not know when the decisive moment will come, so the mind's usual strategy of preparing for a known future event simply will not work here. Any attempt to calculate or predict the exact hour is thought spinning uselessly in the dark, since the information it wants was never going to be given.

Watch instead means stay alert in this moment, awake to what is actually happening rather than absorbed in the story of when something might happen. That readiness cannot be manufactured in advance and then stored for later. It has to be renewed now, and now again, which is why watching, not predicting, is the instruction given.

Live Mark 13:33 today

  1. Instead of refreshing your inbox for the news you are waiting on, close the tab and give your full attention to whatever is actually in front of you for the next ten minutes.
  2. Stop asking a friend who is waiting on something hard when they will hear back, and just be with them in the day they are in.
  3. In traffic or a slow line, drop the question of how long this will take and feel where you are: your hands, your breathing, the air, the sounds around you.

How much of today are you spending in a moment that has not come yet?

You cannot know which day is your last, so stop arranging your life around a date you will never be told. Live this one completely.
