Mark 13:37 · World English Bible
What I tell you, I tell all: Watch.
Most of your life passes while you are not really here. You drive familiar roads and arrive with no memory of the journey.
From the Ego v. Being reading below.
The same verse, read by 2 traditions.

EGO & BEING
Most of your life passes while you are not really here. You drive familiar roads and arrive with no memory of the journey. You eat without tasting, listen while composing your reply, move through hours lost in a stream of thought that carries you somewhere other than now. This is the ordinary trance, the sleep that looks like waking. You are technically alert, yet absent, while the living moment slips by untouched.
One word is given here, and it is everything. To watch is to wake up inside your own life, to bring the light of awareness to what is actually happening rather than to your endless thinking about it. It is not strain or vigilance against danger. It is the gentle return of attention to the present, the noticing of your breath, this sound, this sensation. You do not have to change what you find. You only have to be present to it. In that simple watching, the trance loosens, and you are here at last.

ESOTERIC
The whole teaching gathers into the state of inner wakefulness, the steady awareness a person holds over the movements of their own consciousness. To watch is to keep the attention alert to what rises within, neither asleep in habit nor lost in the outer world, present at the threshold where spirit meets flesh. This word is given to all faculties at once, every part of the self set on guard, because the coming of the higher life is unannounced and arrives to whoever is awake. Watchfulness is the single discipline beneath all the others, the open eye of the mind kept turned toward the center.
The whole of it comes down to staying inwardly awake, aware of what stirs in you and ready for the light that comes without warning.
Ego v. Being lens
How much of your own day did you actually attend?
Washing the dishes to get the dishes done is missing your life. Wash them to wash them, and the whole moment comes alive.
Awareness is the path of life, inattention the path of death. The alert person is already living, the distracted one is only passing time.
You do not add awareness by gathering more. You arrive at it by letting go, until only what is actually here remains.
