Mark 15:10 Meaning For He Perceived That for Envy

For he perceived that for envy the chief priests had delivered him up.

What does Mark 15:10 mean?

Beneath every accusation the judging mind can see, if it will, the real motive underneath. What condemns innocence does not do so for the reasons it names; it does so because innocence exposes what the ego lacks and cannot bear to see it shine.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Beneath every accusation the judging mind can see, if it will, the real motive underneath. What condemns innocence does not do so for the reasons it names; it does so because innocence exposes what the ego lacks and cannot bear to see it shine. Envy is guilt turned outward as attack, the wish to destroy in another the very thing the self believes it has lost.

So the mind that looks clearly perceives that the charge was never about wrongdoing at all. The accusers hand love over not because it is guilty but because its innocence is unbearable to those who have chosen guilt, and in that seeing the whole drama of blame is stripped of its pretended justice.

Chief priests: the part of the mind that guards the ego's authority and attacks the innocence that threatens it Jesus: the innocence handed over to judgment, condemned not for any wrong but for being what the accuser cannot forgive in himself

  1. When a post or a promotion gives you that small sting, name it honestly to yourself as envy instead of finding the reason the person did not deserve it. The story your mind builds next is the cover, not the truth.
  2. Before you complain about someone to a friend, ask yourself quietly whether what bothers you is something they did or something they have. The answer changes what you say next.
  3. When a colleague is suddenly being picked apart in your work chat, listen for what they actually did wrong. If nobody can say it clearly, you now know what the conversation is really about, and you can stop passing it along.

Who am I quietly glad to see struggle, and what does that tell me about what I think I am missing?

Ill will toward another is a coal picked up to throw. The hand that holds it is the one that burns.

Stoicism · Seneca

Envy makes other people's good fortune into your own punishment. The envious person is tormented not by what he lacks but by what someone else has.

Judaism · Pirkei Avot

Envy, appetite and the hunger for status drive a person out of their own life. They take more from the one who carries them than from anyone they aim at.
