Mark 3:10 · World English Bible

Mark 3:10 Meaning For He Had Healed Many

For he had healed many, so that as many as had diseases pressed on him that they might touch him.

What does Mark 3:10 mean?

Every mind that suffers carries the same secret conviction, that something outside itself must be reached and grasped before wholeness can return. So the wounded press in, certain the cure lives in a body they can touch, when the healing has never been anywhere but in the willingness they already bring.

Christian Psychology

Every mind that suffers carries the same secret conviction, that something outside itself must be reached and grasped before wholeness can return. So the wounded press in, certain the cure lives in a body they can touch, when the healing has never been anywhere but in the willingness they already bring. The pressing crowd is the mind reaching for its own remembered innocence and believing it lies in another's hand.

What draws them is real, though they name it wrongly. They seek a touch and find a change of mind, for the presence they crowd toward only shows each one the health that was always their own.

Plagues: the many forms guilt takes when it is seen as sickness in the body Touch: the mind's belief that release must come through the flesh, when it comes through willingness alone The crowd: minds pressing toward the innocence they think is lost outside themselves

  1. Next time you reach for your phone to fix a restless feeling, pause before you unlock it and ask what you actually wanted from it. The thing you were after was probably quiet, and the phone was never where quiet lived.
  2. When you catch yourself waiting on one person to say the right thing before you can feel okay again, try giving yourself that sentence first, in your own words. Then talk to them without needing the rescue.
  3. In a tense meeting or a long grocery line, when your whole body is leaning forward trying to make something happen, let your shoulders drop and stay where you are for one breath. Nothing out there has to move for you to be alright.

What have I been waiting for someone else to hand me, that I could simply stop withholding from myself?

Zen

The student begs the master for the truth, and the master answers that he is asking the way a fish asks where to find water. What is sought has never been absent, only overlooked in the looking.

Upanishads

You search the whole world for a treasure that is buried under your own house. The self you reach for with both hands is the self already doing the reaching.

Rumi

What you are hunting for has been hunting for you the whole time. The ache that sends you running outward is itself the proof of what lives inside you.
