CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

There is a worship that keeps love at the surface and never lets it reach the mind that fears. The ego lets the body speak of God while the thought behind it holds tight to separation, for words cost nothing and change nothing. A mind can perform every observance and keep its guilt untouched, because the ritual asks only of the lips and leaves the chooser where it was.

What is honored is not what is said but what is meant, and love is answered only by the part of the mind that turns fully toward it. The distance here is never in heaven; it is the mind's own withholding, its refusal to let the correction reach where the fear lives. To close that gap is the only worship that heals, for it brings the whole mind home to what it never left.

Lips: the outward form the mind offers while keeping its real allegiance elsewhere, the gesture of nearness that costs the ego nothing. Heart: the deep place where the mind actually chooses its teacher, the seat of belief that either draws near to love or holds itself apart in fear.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

You can say all the right words and observe every custom while remaining completely absent from your own life. The lips move, the rituals are performed, yet no one is truly here. This is the emptiness of a life lived entirely on the surface of the mind, where honoring becomes another performance the ego arranges for approval.

To draw near is not to speak more devoutly. It is to be present, to bring your whole attention into this moment instead of leaving it back in thought. The distance between the lips and the heart is simply the distance between talking about presence and actually being present, which is the only place the sacred is ever found.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Clinical Psychology

Honour paid with the lips while the heart stands somewhere else is the exact structure of taking a name in vain. A person claims allegiance to the highest order and performs all the correct words. Underneath, he pursues a set of purposes that have nothing to do with what he professes. The mouth points one way. The aim points another.

Meaning is not scattered at random through a life. It gathers around a center, the way a language is a living web of associated ideas organized around what matters most. The hypocrite has hollowed that center out and left the shell standing. He keeps the vocabulary of devotion and drains the devotion from it. What remains is a man whose words and whose wants have quietly divorced, and the prophet names it before he can hide it again.

SUFISM

Sufism

Lips move while the heart stays away, and this is the exact disease of showing off, worship arranged for the eyes of others while the inner room sits cold. The cure is honest self-examination in secret, asking whether the mouth and the heart say the same thing when no one is watching.

God is not far in the way the words pretend; the distance is entirely on the human side. A dusty mirror still faces the light, but reflects nothing until it is wiped clean. The polishing is only turning the heart back to what the lips already claim.

AWARENESS

Indian Guru

Lips can be trained; the heart cannot. Words of praise repeat themselves through a mind that learned them from others, and the one repeating them feels nothing, because nothing has happened. This is the whole misery of the religious person who has never been religious for a single moment.

A man who prays without love is not lying to anyone; he is asleep. Watch the prayer as it rises, and the mechanical part falls away by itself. What remains, wordless, is the only honoring that ever reached anywhere.

Live Mark 7:6 today

  1. Next time you type a warm message you do not really feel, stop and either mean it or send something shorter and true. One honest line beats three friendly ones you are performing.
  2. In your next conversation, put the phone face down and actually listen instead of saying the agreeable things while planning your reply. Let the other person feel that you are really there.
  3. When you are annoyed in a meeting and still nodding along, name the gap to yourself quietly. You do not have to blurt it out, but stop pretending to yourself that the nodding is agreement.

Where am I saying the right words while keeping my real self at a safe distance?

Tao Te Ching 38

When the real thing is gone, people fill the gap with ceremony and good manners. The louder the display of virtue, the less of it is actually there.

Sufism · Rumi

A prayer said with the tongue while the mind is elsewhere travels no distance at all. Only the longing underneath it is heard.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Do not announce your philosophy, live it. People should learn what you believe from how you behave, not from what you claim.
