MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Men seen as trees walking is what this shrunken world does to everyone in it. Here, at the far edge of contraction, a person loses the sense of who he is. He moves through his days rooted and dim, barely awake, hardly knowing he is asleep. That blur is the ordinary condition, not a stage of failing eyesight to hurry past.

As sight opens, the figures change. The awakened man looks again and no longer sees dull shapes trudging by. He sees each person as a garden of delight, alive in another dimension, a tree heavy with its own fruit and light. The outer world had not changed; his acceptance had. First men appear as trees walking, then as living gardens, and the difference is only how far the seer has come awake.

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

Partial sight reports honestly and still gets the world wrong, which is why one touch is rarely the finish.

Perception hands a person whatever the available input can support, and the mind takes delivery of that as the world itself. A man seeing trees that walk is giving an honest account of insufficient data, and he will reach for the wrong thing with total sincerity, because sincerity was never the missing piece.

The rare move is naming the blur out loud instead of defending it as vision, and that admission is what invites the second touch. Most people lock the half-formed model in and treat further questions as weakness. The price of that lock is a lifetime of confident action aimed at shapes that were never standing there.

  1. On your commute or your walk, put the phone away and actually look at three people. Not as obstacles, as whole lives with their own morning behind them. Same street, different world.
  2. Pick one person you've flattened into a role, the barista, the coworker who annoys you, your mother. Ask one real question and listen for the rest of them.
  3. In a tense meeting or a tired argument at home, look again at the person across from you. Not at their position, at them. Half the pressure in the room is just no one being seen.

How much of the dullness in your day is in the world, and how much is in how awake you are?
