Mark 9:19 Meaning He Answered Him

He answered him, “Unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me.”

What does Mark 9:19 mean?

The complaint is not impatience with people but with the mind's stubborn faith in its own powerlessness. A faithless generation is any moment that trusts fear over love and then wonders why it cannot be healed.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The complaint is not impatience with people but with the mind's stubborn faith in its own powerlessness. A faithless generation is any moment that trusts fear over love and then wonders why it cannot be healed. The awakened teacher within does not scold; it turns toward the source of strength and asks that the suffering thing be brought where it can be looked at with love instead of dread.

Healing waits only on this one movement, that the mind stop nursing the affliction as its own and carry it to the teacher who sees no reality in it. What cannot be cured while it is hidden and defended is undone the instant it is offered up.

Generation: the passing state of mind that keeps choosing fear and calls its helplessness a fact Him: the sick and separated part of the self, the wound the mind still believes is real

Live Mark 9:19 today

  1. Name the one thing you keep carrying quietly, the worry you reread at midnight on your phone. Say it out loud in the empty room, or type it into a note, instead of letting it circle unspoken.
  2. Tell one person the real version today, not the tidy version. A text that says "honestly, I've been struggling with this" does more than six months of handling it yourself.
  3. When the day turns hard and your first instinct is to grit your teeth and manage it, stop for ten seconds and admit you cannot fix this one alone. Then ask for the help you were about to skip.

What have I been defending as unfixable, just so I never have to hand it over?

Tao Te Ching

The sage does not hoard the trouble or wrestle it alone. What is held tight stays hard, and what is let go softens on its own.

Buddhism · Second Noble Truth

Suffering continues because we cling to it and call it ours. The moment the grip loosens, the burning has nothing left to feed on.

Sufism · Rumi

The wound is where the light gets in, but only if it is uncovered. Keep it bandaged in secrecy and it stays a wound.
