Mark 9:40 Meaning For Whoever Is Not Against Us Is

For whoever is not against us is on our side.

What does Mark 9:40 mean?

The mind that has chosen love no longer sees enemies to be sorted from friends, because attack is the only thing that ever made another seem opposed. Where there is no attack there is no adversary, and the one who was feared is quietly received as a companion on the same road home.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The mind that has chosen love no longer sees enemies to be sorted from friends, because attack is the only thing that ever made another seem opposed. Where there is no attack there is no adversary, and the one who was feared is quietly received as a companion on the same road home. What the ego calls sides is only the belief that minds are separate and must compete for a safety there is never enough of.

Seen truly, everyone is either extending love or asking for it, and the asking is not opposition but a call the awakened mind can answer. So the question was never who stands against whom. Every mind is already on the same side, because in truth there is only one Son of God, and he cannot be divided into camps.

Live Mark 9:40 today

  1. Pick the person you have mentally filed as on the other side and read something they wrote without arguing back in your head. Just hear them out once.
  2. In the next tense conversation, assume the sharp thing they said is fear or tiredness, not an attack on you. Answer the person, not the tone.
  3. When the group chat or comment thread splits into teams today, do not pick one. Say the honest, kind thing that belongs to no camp, or say nothing and stay out of it.

Who have I made into an opponent, when they were only asking for the same thing I want?

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

People act badly from ignorance of what is good, not from being your enemy. Correct them gently if you can, and drop the grudge either way.

Tao Te Ching

Soft overcomes hard, and the one who does not contend has no one to contend with. Where there is no attack, there is no opponent.

Sufism · Rumi

Out beyond right and wrong there is a field where the sides disappear. Meet there and the argument has nothing to stand on.
