Matthew 10:15 Meaning Most Certainly I Tell You

Most certainly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.

What does Matthew 10:15 mean?

Worse than a person eaten alive by the parts they cannot face is one who has seen the deep pattern clearly and turned it away. Sodom's people suffered what blind darkness does to a city that never knowingly reached the edge of change.

Psychoanalysis

Worse than a person eaten alive by the parts they cannot face is one who has seen the deep pattern clearly and turned it away. Sodom's people suffered what blind darkness does to a city that never knowingly reached the edge of change. The gate shut against the disciples is a different matter: a person who has glimpsed the image of God and still chooses the locked room over the meeting.

Like a household that will not answer when something holy stands at the door, it gives up the joining of opposites. Every step forward toward wholeness costs some pain. A person who refuses the meeting at the threshold does not dodge that cost, they pile it up, walled off from the wholeness once offered them.

Live Matthew 10:15 today

  1. Think of the thing you already know you should change, the one you understood clearly weeks ago. Do one small piece of it today, not the whole thing.
  2. When someone tells you something true about yourself today, stay in the conversation one minute past the point where you want to defend. That minute is the whole thing.
  3. Under pressure, when you feel yourself reaching for the easy exit you know is the wrong one, name it to yourself out loud. Just naming it keeps the door from locking.

What have you already seen clearly, and quietly decided not to look at again?

Buddhism · the ignorance that can be taught

Acting badly out of not knowing can be undone by learning. Seeing clearly and then turning away is the harder place to come back from.

There is a knock at the door you have been waiting your whole life for. The grief is not in missing it, it is in hearing it and staying seated.

Stoicism · Seneca

The one who has never been shown the better way can still be shown. The one who knows it and refuses has nothing left to blame.
