Christian Psychology

A mind awake looks past the ties of blood and body and sees kinship where love actually lives. What joins one mind to another is never the accident of birth but the willingness to learn the same lesson together. So the gesture toward the companions is the recognition that family is chosen in the mind, and everyone who turns toward love is already a brother.

The hand reaches out because seeing this way is an offering, not a rejection of anyone. A mind that recognizes its true relations has stopped dividing the world into the near and the far, the mine and the stranger. It has understood that closeness is not distance measured by the body but agreement in purpose, and by that measure no one who shares the single goal of love is left outside the circle.

The disciples: the part of the mind that has said yes to love and gathered around its teaching, the company of thoughts that learn together. The hand: the mind's extending of itself, the reach of love that includes rather than possesses. Mother and brethren: the true family of the mind, everyone joined by shared purpose rather than by the body's accidents of blood.

Kinship of the flesh dissolves the moment the awakened mind recognizes its true family: the disciplines, the trained faculties gathered around the center of consciousness. The hand stretched forth is the will directed outward, and where it points, there the real bond lies. Blood ties belong to the outer man, the accidents of birth and body. But the powers a person cultivates inside himself, the 12 ordered energies that follow the higher self, are mother and brother because they are born of the same inner labor. The mother here is not the woman who bore the body but the receptive soul that gives birth to spiritual states. What surrounds a person as genuine relation is not who shares his lineage but what shares his purpose within.

The household of the awakened self is assembled from its own developed faculties, not from the flesh it came out of.

Hand: the will and its power of choice reaching out to claim what belongs to it Mother: the receptive soul within, the womb of consciousness that bears each new spiritual state Brethren: the trained inner faculties, the ordered energies that gather around the higher self

Live Matthew 12:49 today

  1. Open your phone and send one message you have been meaning to send for months. Not an apology or an explanation, just a hello that includes someone again.
  2. When you are with a friend today, say out loud the thing you usually only think, that you are glad they are in your life. Saying it is the reaching out.
  3. In a meeting where someone keeps getting talked over, name their point and hand it back to them. That small inclusion is the whole gesture.

Who would feel differently about today if I simply let them know they count as mine?

We are not drops kept apart but one sea that has forgotten itself. The reaching out is simply the sea remembering.
