CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The world is the ground where the mind's thoughts take form, the outer showing of an inner choice. In it two kinds of thought grow together: those born of the recognition of oneness, and those born of the belief in separation. What looks like two kinds of people is really two ways of thinking, and every mind carries both seeds and chooses daily which it will water.

The children of fear are not persons to condemn but thoughts to release, for they have no father but a mistaken belief and no life except the mind's willingness to hold them. To see the field this way is already to begin the harvest, for a mind that knows its enemies are only its own errors has stopped fearing the world and turned to correct the only place error lives.

Field: the world, the outer ground where the mind's inner thoughts appear and grow. Good seed: the thoughts born of the knowledge of oneness, the true children of love. Tares: the thoughts born of the belief in separation, children of a mistaken idea with no real father.

The body is the field where consciousness sows itself. A person is ground, and light enters as awareness planted in the nerves and the blood, quickening the flesh into a living temple. This is the seed the higher self scatters through the whole frame. Yet the same soil throws up a second growth, the reactions of the lower mind, the fear and craving and endless chatter that root themselves beside the light and mimic it. Both rise in 1 body, and the long drama of Scripture is only this slow sorting inside a single life.

Field: the human body, the fertile ground where every state of mind takes root and grows Good seed: the light of awareness planted in the nerves, the higher self quickening the flesh into life Tares: the weeds of the lower mind, fear and craving and noise that spring up beside the light and counterfeit it

Live Matthew 13:38 today

  1. Sometime today, sit with one thought that has been bothering you and ask where it actually lives. Not in the other person, not in the email, just in you, which is also the one place you can set it down.
  2. When someone in a group chat or at dinner says the thing that usually gets under your skin, try treating your reaction as the problem rather than them. You can stay warm with the person and still drop the story you were building about them.
  3. Under real pressure, a tense meeting, traffic that is not moving, a deadline closing in, pause long enough to separate what is happening from what you are telling yourself about what is happening. One of those two is much easier to change.

Dhammapada 1

Everything we meet begins as a thought. Act from a mind twisted by ill will and suffering follows you like a cartwheel behind the ox; act from a clear mind and ease follows just as surely.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

The world you live in is made of the judgments you pass on it. Change the judgment and the thing that was harming you has nothing left to stand on.

Two monks argue over whether the flag or the wind is moving. Their teacher tells them both: it is the mind that moves.
