Ego v. Being

One who has truly awakened to the depth within holds a strange kind of wealth. From it come things ancient and things utterly fresh, and the two do not contradict. The old is the timeless truth known in every age; the new is how it lives in this exact moment, never before and never again.

The mind clings to one or the other, either worshipping tradition or chasing novelty. But presence draws on both without effort, because it stands outside of time even while acting within it. When you live from that inner treasure rather than from memory or expectation, you can honor what is enduring and still respond completely fresh to what is in front of you now.

Live Matthew 13:52 today

  1. Reread something that shaped you years ago, a passage, a letter, an old note, and let it meet who you are today rather than who you were then.
  2. Ask someone older than you how they handled something you are facing. Listen for what still holds rather than for what sounds dated.
  3. In a meeting where everyone defaults to how it has always been done, or to whatever is newest, try holding both. Keep what works and stay open about the rest.

What old thing you know by heart could you meet freshly today, as if for the first time?

Hold to the ancient way in order to meet what exists right now. Knowing the old beginning is what lets you move well in the present.

Do not follow in the footsteps of the old masters. Seek what they sought. The living search is the tradition, not the trail of footprints.
