Matthew 16:19 Meaning I Will Give to You the Keys

I will give to you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven; and whatever you release on earth will have been released in heaven.

What does Matthew 16:19 mean?

You are given the keys of the kingdom, the very power of your own consciousness. Whatever you bind on earth is bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth is loosed.

Ego v. Being

You are given the keys of the kingdom, the very power of your own consciousness. Whatever you bind on earth is bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth is loosed. Inner and outer are not two separate worlds. Your state of consciousness shapes the reality you live in.

What you cling to and refuse to release stays bound to you, repeating itself in your life. What you truly let go of inwardly, in genuine surrender, is set free and no longer holds you. So the freedom you seek is never granted from somewhere else. It is loosed the moment you release it within.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

Faith itself is handed the keys, because the believing power in a person is what opens and shuts the inner chambers of consciousness. The kingdom is not a distant realm but the higher state within the body, and the 2 keys are the power to bind and the power to loose, to hold a thing fast or to let it go. What the higher self settles is then mirrored below in the outer life: heaven governs, and earth answers to it. The lower nature receives what the inner ruling power has already fixed. Every gate the awakening self locks or unlocks above shows itself afterward in the daily person.

What is decided in the higher chambers of the mind descends and takes form in the ordinary life of the body.

Keys: the twin powers to open and shut the inner states, to bind and to release Kingdom of heaven: the higher state of consciousness within the body Heaven: the higher ruling mind that decides first Earth: the outer, bodily life that answers to what heaven settles

Live Matthew 16:19 today

  1. Pick one old grievance you replay in your head on the commute. Today, when it starts up, say inwardly that you are setting it down, and let your attention go back to the road or the window.
  2. Think of a message you have been composing in your head for weeks, the one that would finally settle the score. Let it go unsent, and feel how much lighter you are when you stop carrying it.
  3. When something at work goes wrong in a way you cannot fix, stop arguing with it inside. Do the next real thing in front of you and leave the rest unclenched.

What am I still holding that is holding me back?

Dhammapada

Suffering follows the mind that grips, and ease follows the mind that lets the object go. The holding, not the thing held, is the weight.

Tao Te Ching 48

The way forward is by subtraction. Keep releasing, and what remains does what force never could.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Some things are yours to move and some are not, and freedom begins when you stop demanding the second kind. The chain is your insistence, not the world.
