CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

A small false belief left unquestioned does not stay small. Like a trace of yeast worked through the whole loaf, one thought of separation spreads until it colors everything the mind perceives. The warning is not against certain men but against a way of thinking, the rigid judgment and the flat denial that between them close the mind to love. What begins as a single hidden assumption becomes the taste of the entire day.

The guard is watchfulness at the start, before the thought has spread. A mind that catches the first small lie can refuse it, and keep the whole of itself clear.

Leaven: the hidden thought of separation that works unseen through the mind until it alters all perception. Pharisees and Sadducees: the two faces of the ego, harsh judgment on one side and cold denial on the other, both teaching fear beneath a look of wisdom.

Leaven is a doctrine that spreads through the whole mind by a hidden working, a small quantity that swells the entire mass without being seen. The warning names the 2 great corruptions of religious consciousness: the outward rule-keeper who mistakes the letter for the life, and the denier who empties the inner world of spirit altogether. Both ferment the same way, silently altering every thought until a person mistakes the swelling for nourishment. The awakened consciousness within a person, the Christ faculty, sets a watch against any teaching that puffs the self up while feeding it nothing real, because such teaching rises fastest precisely where it is least examined.

The Pharisees and Sadducees are 2 states of a single divided religious mind, one gripping the external form and one hollowing out the interior. To beware their leaven is to keep the inner ferment clean.

Leaven: the hidden doctrine that spreads through the whole mind by silent working, swelling thought without feeding it The Pharisees: the part of the mind that clings to outward form and letter and mistakes rule-keeping for inner life The Sadducees: the part of the mind that denies the spirit and empties the inner world of anything unseen

  1. When a small sour thought about someone shows up while you are scrolling or driving alone, say it to yourself plainly and ask whether you actually believe it. Most of them do not survive being looked at straight on.
  2. In a group chat or at dinner, let the first little jab or eye roll pass out of you unspoken. One withheld remark can keep a whole evening from turning.
  3. In a tense meeting or a long line that is not moving, catch the moment your mind starts building a case against someone. Set the case down before it has a second paragraph.

Which small assumption have I been carrying all day without ever once questioning it?

Whatever you think again and again, you become. A single unwatched thought, repeated, wears a groove the whole mind runs in.
