What does Matthew 20:9 mean?

The eleventh-hour workers receiving a full day's wage undoes the mind's whole arithmetic of merit. Love does not measure the hours or weigh how long the striving lasted; it gives itself entire to whoever turns toward it, however late.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The eleventh-hour workers receiving a full day's wage undoes the mind's whole arithmetic of merit. Love does not measure the hours or weigh how long the striving lasted; it gives itself entire to whoever turns toward it, however late. The single coin is the same peace offered to all, indivisible, not portioned out by deserving.

This is the correction the mind resists most, because it has built its identity on being owed. Yet the gift was never a payment for labor; it is what love is, and love cannot be given in fractions.

Labourers of the eleventh hour: the parts of the mind that turn toward love late, after long delay, and are met with the whole gift as though they had never wandered. Penny: the one peace given whole to everyone alike, indivisible, never portioned out according to deserving.

Live Matthew 20:9 today

  1. Forgive yourself today for starting late. Not halfway, not with conditions. The hours you lost do not reduce what is available to you now.
  2. Welcome the person who joined the group chat or the team late with the same warmth the old members get. No initiation, no probation.
  3. When someone gets the same thing you worked much harder for, let the whole calculation go. Say congratulations and mean it, then get back to your afternoon.

Where am I still waiting to have earned enough before I accept what is already offered?
