Matthew 26:33 Meaning But Peter Answered Him

But Peter answered him, “Even if all will be made to stumble because of you, I will never be made to stumble.”

What does Matthew 26:33 mean?

Here a mind mistakes the ego's confidence for strength, declaring a loyalty it has not yet learned to keep. To set oneself above all others, certain that one alone will not falter, is the ego speaking in its favorite voice, the voice that measures the self against the many and finds it superior.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Here a mind mistakes the ego's confidence for strength, declaring a loyalty it has not yet learned to keep. To set oneself above all others, certain that one alone will not falter, is the ego speaking in its favorite voice, the voice that measures the self against the many and finds it superior. This certainty feels like devotion, yet it rests on the belief in a separate self strong enough to stand on its own.

Real steadfastness is never the boast of a mind sure of itself; it is the quiet willingness of a mind that knows it cannot stand alone and therefore leans on love. The one who promises never to fall has not yet met the fear in himself, and the promise, however sincere, is made by the part that has the most still to learn.

The one who vows above all others: the part of the mind that trusts its own separate strength, the ego mistaking pride for faithfulness.

Live Matthew 26:33 today

  1. When you feel the urge today to tell yourself you would never do what someone else did, let the sentence go unfinished and stay curious instead.
  2. In a meeting or a conversation, skip the promise you are tempted to make about how you will handle something, and simply handle it when the time comes.
  3. When you are under pressure and want to prove you are the dependable one, ask for help with one piece of it instead, and let that be the stronger move.

Where am I leaning on my own confidence instead of asking for a hand?

Do not announce what kind of person you are. Let it come out in what you actually do, and keep quiet until then.

Comparing yourself with others, better than, worse than, equal to, is itself the trap. Even the flattering version keeps you measuring.
