What does Matthew 27:21 mean?

Two prisoners stand before the crowd, and only one can be set free. Barabbas means "son of the father," the man built out of the evidence of the senses, the self that trusts what reason reports and what the eyes confirm.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Two prisoners stand before the crowd, and only one can be set free. Barabbas means "son of the father," the man built out of the evidence of the senses, the self that trusts what reason reports and what the eyes confirm. Jesus is that same power turned inward, the human imagination that shapes fact from within. The crowd asks for Barabbas, and every person does the same each time he lets the outer facts decide what is possible and hands his imagination over to be silenced.

Whoever is released is the one a person lives from. Choosing the sense-man keeps the world exactly as it looks, and the imagination stays bound while the facts rule. One of the two is always freed. The one set free is the one that runs a life.

Live Matthew 27:21 today

  1. The next time you catch yourself saying "the facts are the facts" about your own future, pause and ask what you would picture if they were not. Spend one minute there.
  2. When someone lists all the reasons it cannot work, agree that those are the current facts and still say out loud what you are going for. Both can sit on the table.
  3. When a bad number or a hard email lands, let it inform you without letting it decide. Read it once, close it, and go back to the version you are building toward.

Which of the two have I been setting free, the one who reads the facts or the one who writes them?

Two birds sit on one branch. One eats the fruit of what it sees, the other watches, and which one you take yourself to be decides the life you live.

Buddhism · Dhammapada

We are made by our thinking. Live from what the eyes report and the report becomes the world.

Stoicism · Epictetus

People are not disturbed by events but by the view they take of them. The view you release is the one that rules.
