Matthew 27:26 · World English Bible
Then he released to them Barabbas, but Jesus he flogged and delivered to be crucified.
Barabbas opens as bar-abba, son of the father, and to release him while binding the Christ is to choose the lower mind over the higher, the crowd's man of flesh set free while the inner light is handed to suffering. Faced with both, a person keeps the familiar reasoning self and gives up the one thing that could rise.

The scourging and the crucifixion are not a death out in history but an allegory of the rise of Christ consciousness. The 5 senses are shut down and the outer self is stilled so the inner one can lift. What looks like defeat is the very shutting of the doors of sense by which the Christ within begins to rise.

The senses are turned inward and the clamor drops away, and only then does the inner thing become clear. Stillness is not a loss, it is the condition for seeing.
The reed has to be cut from the reed bed and hollowed out before it can make any music. What felt like being broken was the making of the instrument.
