Matthew 27:60 Meaning And Laid It in His Own New

and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut out in the rock, and he rolled a great stone against the door of the tomb, and departed.

What does Matthew 27:60 mean?

Being laid in the rock-hewn tomb is the descent into meditation, where the lower flesh goes still and appears to die so that a finer energy can wake. The great stone rolled to the door is the pineal 'stone' sealing the narrow tract that runs from that gland along the fornix, closing the chamber against the noise of the outer senses.

Sealed in that inner dark, nothing is lost; the sealing is the condition of the rising. When the stone stirs and the tract opens, the buried energy lifts through the brain like water drawn up from a well, and what felt like a grave becomes the place the awakened self climbs out of.

Rock: the solid inner ground of the head where meditation is entered and the outer life is laid down. Stone: the pineal seal on the fornix tract, shut against the senses until the inner energy is ready to rise.

Live Matthew 27:60 today

  1. Pick fifteen minutes today when you put the phone in another room, face down, and just sit with your eyes closed. It will feel like wasted time, like you have shut yourself in a box with nothing in it. Stay anyway.
  2. When someone talks to you tonight, at dinner or on the phone, let your own answer wait three seconds longer than feels natural. Hold your mouth closed and let the quiet sit there. Something better usually comes out of that pause than out of the quick reply.
  3. Next time the pressure spikes, a bad email, traffic that will not move, a meeting going sideways, shut your eyes for one breath and let everything in you go still before you respond. You are not giving up. You are closing the door for a second so the right thing can come up.

What in you has gone quiet lately that you have been treating as a loss?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching 16

Return to the root and sit in stillness. Everything that will grow has first to go quiet and dark underground, and that quiet is not the end of it but the start.

Hinduism · Mandukya Upanishad

The deepest sleep looks like nothing is happening, yet it is the doorway through which the self touches its own ground. What seems empty is the fullest state.

Zen · Dogen

Sitting still is not a method for getting somewhere later. The sitting itself is the awakening, closed eyes and all.
