Matthew 28:15 Meaning So They Took the Money and Did

So they took the money and did as they were told. This saying was spread abroad among the Jews, and continues until today.

What does Matthew 28:15 mean?

A mind that accepts payment to deny what it has seen is a mind bribing itself to keep the story of separation intact. The guards were witnesses to the undoing of death, yet fear offered them a small coin and a ready lie, and they took it, for the ego always prefers a comfortable falsehood to a truth that would cost it its own existence.

The rumor they spread is every reason the mind rehearses for why love could not have happened.

So a lie carried forward from mouth to mouth is not the world's stubbornness but the mind's own wish to not have witnessed grace. When a mind is willing to give back the bribe and simply look at what it saw, the rumor loses the only voice it ever had, which was its own.

Money: the small payment the mind accepts to purchase its own denial, the price of keeping a comforting story Guards: the part of the mind set to watch over the tomb of the past, hired witnesses who choose the lie over what stood plainly before them

  1. Think of one thing you quietly believe about yourself that you have stopped checking, something like "I'm just not a patient person." Ask yourself honestly whether you still believe it or whether you are just keeping it because it saves you the trouble.
  2. When someone tells you something good about a person you have already written off, resist the quick correction. Let their version sit there for a minute without you adding the story you usually tell about that person.
  3. In a tense meeting or a sharp exchange in a group chat, you will feel the pull to repeat the line that protects your side. Pause before you send it, and ask whether you are saying it because it is true or because it is easier.

What am I being paid, in comfort, to keep not seeing?
