Numbers 11:29 Meaning Moses Said to Him

Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all Yahweh’s people were prophets, that Yahweh would put his Spirit on them!”

What does Numbers 11:29 mean?

When others begin to awaken, the ego feels threatened and calls it competition, as if presence were a possession only one person could hold. Moses is being invited into that jealousy, and he simply declines it.

Ego v. Being

When others begin to awaken, the ego feels threatened and calls it competition, as if presence were a possession only one person could hold. Moses is being invited into that jealousy, and he simply declines it.

The deeper truth is that awakening is not a scarce prize. The same living awareness can rise in everyone at once, and one person's awakening takes nothing from another's. Moses wished the spirit upon all, because he knew there was nothing to guard. When you stop treating consciousness as yours alone, you can wish it freely for everyone, and lose nothing by doing so.

  1. When you feel that small pinch at someone else's good news, let yourself feel it, then send the congratulations anyway and mean it.
  2. Say out loud what someone else did well, in the meeting, in the group chat, in front of their boss. Credit is not a fixed pile.
  3. When a coworker is being praised for the thing you also do, resist the urge to mention your version. Let their moment be theirs all the way through.

Whose good news have you been quietly making about yourself?
