Numbers 11:6 Meaning But Now We Have Lost Our Appetite

but now we have lost our appetite. There is nothing at all except this manna to look at.

What does Numbers 11:6 mean?

Nothing in your hands will ever be enough while your standard for enough is still set somewhere you left behind. Measured against a menu remembered from slavery, God's daily provision reads as scarcity, and the reading is what does the damage.

Nothing in your hands will ever be enough while your standard for enough is still set somewhere you left behind.

Measured against a menu remembered from slavery, God's daily provision reads as scarcity, and the reading is what does the damage. A verdict that something is beneath a person sets the state, the state kills appetite, and the lost appetite gets blamed on the food instead of on the standard doing the measuring.

Three moves exist for a gap that size: change the conditions, change the blueprint, or make peace with the distance between them. A people who try only the first will keep demanding a different wilderness. Changing the blueprint costs them the story of who they used to be, the version that ate better and mattered more, and returns the ability to taste what is already arriving every morning.

Live Numbers 11:6 today

  1. Pick one ordinary thing today, your coffee, your walk to the car, your own bed, and let yourself actually like it for thirty seconds without comparing it to a better version. The comparison is what was flattening it.
  2. At dinner or over a call, say one plain good thing about your current life without the sentence that usually follows it, the one starting with "but". Let it sit there whole.
  3. When you scroll past someone's highlight and your own day goes gray, name out loud what just happened. Nothing changed in your life in those two seconds except the ruler you picked up.

Whose life are you quietly measuring yours against, and did you ever agree to that?
