Numbers 12:3 Meaning Now the Man Moses Was Very Humble

Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all the men who were on the surface of the earth.

What does Numbers 12:3 mean?

Meekness is widely mistaken for weakness, but I tell you it is the very opposite. It is the absence of ego, the condition of a person who no longer needs to defend an image of themselves or prove they are right.

Ego v. Being

Meekness is widely mistaken for weakness, but I tell you it is the very opposite. It is the absence of ego, the condition of a person who no longer needs to defend an image of themselves or prove they are right. Someone like this has nothing to protect, and so almost nothing can threaten them.

This is the source of a quiet strength the forceful never possess. When the ego falls silent within you, you stop reacting from wounded pride, and you meet each moment without resistance. The greatest human being is not the one who dominates others, but the one so free of self-importance that life flows through without a fight, and that is where the calm power comes from.

  1. Read a criticism of your work once, then ask honestly if any of it is true, without composing the defense first. Most of the heat comes from protecting the image, not the work.
  2. In a disagreement at dinner or in a text thread, try "you might be right" and leave it there. See how much lighter the rest of the evening feels.
  3. When someone corrects you in front of other people, say thanks and keep going. You lose nothing, and the room learns you are not fragile.

What would you have left to defend if you stopped defending how you look?
