Numbers 13:33 Meaning There We Saw the Nephilim

The giants are the problems that loom over a person, and the grasshoppers are the shrunken picture he holds of himself. The whole drama turns on one line: as they were in their own sight, so they were in the sight of the giants. The world met them at exactly the size they assigned to themselves.

This is how every outer thing treats you. Value yourself as small and the difficulties tower; nothing outside is deciding this, your self-estimate is. The problems do not shrink first. Your sense of who you are changes first, and the giants adjust to match it. A person is met by his world according to the worth he secretly grants himself, and the measure he holds within is the measure the world returns.

The size of the enemy did not shrink these men. Their own picture of themselves did. Once they were grasshoppers in their own eyes, the whole world confirmed it, because a person carries their self-estimate into every glance that meets them, and others read it back.

The scouts lost the fight in imagination before a single sword was drawn. What a man believes about his own stature becomes the height at which he is treated. Shrink the inner image and the outer one follows.

How a person sizes themselves gets projected outward and returns sounding like a fact gathered in the field. The estimate went on before any contact, and an estimate that low decides in advance what will never be attempted.

That certainty was never tested, only accepted, a fence the mind mistakes for the horizon. References get gathered to fit it, the emotion follows the references, the retreat follows the emotion, and the report comes back honest and completely wrong. The cost is not one refusal. It is every opportunity that stays unclaimed because the person carrying it had already ruled themselves out.
