Even the greatest leaders can forfeit the promised land, and the sentence delivered on the mountain to the two brothers proves it. Moses brought a people out of slavery and still would not enter the country ahead. He took to himself the right to establish the moral order rather than serving it. Position does not exempt a man. The higher he climbs, the more catastrophic the moment he mistakes his authority for the source of the law.

Aaron dies here on the height, short of the goal, and the detail is merciless. Corrupted power cannot reach paradise, no matter how it began. Pride is the usurper's spirit, the quiet decision that the rules are yours to bend. Hold your authority as something you answer to, not something you own. The leader who forgets that stops at the border of the very land he spent his life approaching.

  1. Reread the rule you have been quietly treating as optional because of your position or your track record, and go back to keeping it today.
  2. When you are clearly the most experienced person in the room or the thread, ask someone junior what they think and take their answer seriously rather than politely.
  3. Under pressure, when you could bend a policy because you know better and no one would stop you, follow it anyway and say out loud why you did.

Which rules have I started to think are for other people?
