Numbers 22:8 Meaning He Said to Them

He said to them, “Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as Yahweh shall speak to me.” The princes of Moab stayed with Balaam.

What does Numbers 22:8 mean?

Balaam is the lord of the people, the ruling appetite in a person that holds a prophet's power and could sell the inner life for gain. Told to lodge here this night and wait for the word, he does the one right thing: he stops, holds the messengers of the lower nature overnight, and refuses to act until the higher mind has spoken.

The night is the pause where the outer request is not answered on its own terms but carried inward first.

The princes who abide with him are the pressures of the flesh come to buy a verdict, lodging close and waiting on his decision. Keeping them waiting while the inner voice is consulted is the whole discipline of the scene, the ruling self declining to move until instruction comes from above.

  1. When a message arrives asking you to commit to something, leave it overnight before answering. Draft the reply if you want, just do not send it until tomorrow.
  2. When someone pushes for a yes in person, say you will think about it and mean it. Their urgency is information about them, not an obligation on you.
  3. In the group chat where everyone is piling on, be the one who does not post for an hour. Most of what you would have said will be gone by then, and what remains will be better.

Who is waiting on an answer from me that I keep trying to give before I actually have it?
