Numbers 3:38 Meaning Those Who Encamp Before the Tabernacle Eastward

Those who encamp before the tabernacle eastward, in front of the Tent of Meeting toward the sunrise, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the requirements of the sanctuary for the duty of the children of Israel. The outsider who comes near shall be put to death.

What does Numbers 3:38 mean?

The tabernacle is the human brain, and the camp positioned before it toward the east is consciousness stationed at the point of the rising, the presence of the higher power, the front of the head where the light comes up. Moses is the thinking mind itself set to keep watch there, and the priestly line guarding the sanctuary is the disciplined faculty that holds the sacred inner room from intrusion.

Israel is the union in a person of spirit, mind, and the god within, the whole assembly whose charge is being kept. The stranger who comes near and dies is any foreign thought from the lower nature that presses toward the holy chamber; it cannot survive contact with that frequency.

Guarding the sanctuary is an inward vigilance. The mind stands at the eastern gate of the brain and refuses the alien current entry, so the sacred room stays clean.

Tabernacle: the human brain, the tent that houses the sacred inner room East: the place of the rising, the presence of the higher power at the front of the head Moses: the thinking mind set to keep watch over the sanctuary Israel: the union in a person of spirit, mind, and the god within Stranger: a foreign thought from the lower nature that dies on approach to the holy frequency

Live Numbers 3:38 today

  1. The next time a thought arrives claiming to be the truth about you, stop it at the door and look at it. "Is this true, or did it just show up loud?" is a fair question to ask a stranger.
  2. When someone hands you a version of yourself today, a jab, a label, an offhand comment, you can hear it without letting it move in. Thank them, consider it, and keep the door in your own hand.
  3. Under real pressure, the heated meeting, the message that lands wrong, give yourself one slow breath before you reply. That breath is the watchman, and it does most of the work.

Which thought have I been letting walk straight in without ever checking who it belongs to?

Buddhism · Dhammapada

Guard the mind the way a watchman guards a gate, because thoughts arrive as strangers and some of them mean you harm. Watchfulness at the entrance saves you the work of eviction later.

Stoicism · Epictetus

When an impression knocks, do not take it in on sight. Hold it up, test it, and only then decide whether it belongs to you.

Sufism · al-Ghazali

The heart was described as a guarded house with the intellect posted at the door. Left unattended, whatever is passing by walks in and rearranges the furniture.
