Saddhā: Confident trust Confidence that moves you before you can see the end of the road. Believing in him arrives as the first half of what is handed over, and whoever takes it has already agreed to the second half without knowing its weight.

BUDDHISM
Saddhā: Confident trust Confidence that moves you before you can see the end of the road. Believing in him arrives as the first half of what is handed over, and whoever takes it has already agreed to the second half without knowing its weight. Like signing for a package sight unseen, the trust comes first and the contents come later.
Dukkha: Suffering The ache built into conditioned life. Placed in the same open hand as belief and called a grant, hardship becomes something to be fully known instead of only escaped. Paul writes this from chains, so the pain under discussion is the ordinary kind: cold, boredom, a guard at the door.
Yoniso manasikāra: Attention at the root Attention that goes underneath a thing to its causes. Prison, beatings, and lost standing read as plain misfortune until attention drops below the surface and finds them granted. Nothing about the chain changes when attention shifts, only what the chain is for.
Khanti: Patient endurance Steady bearing under what presses on you, praised in the early texts as the highest austerity. Suffering on his behalf is a long job, carried by staying put under the weight the way you hold a heavy door while others pass through. Most of the work is done by people who simply do not move.
Cāga: Relinquishment Loosening your grip on what you hold. On behalf of sets the direction: safety, reputation, and comfort get spent outward, the way you give up your seat and stand for the rest of the ride. Receiving hardship as a gift and giving away your own ease turn out to be one motion.

What if the difficult part of my life is not in the way of the thing, but the thing itself?
You are an actor in a play whose part is chosen for you. Your only job is to play well whatever role you are handed, including the hard one.
Treat pleasure and pain, gain and loss, as the same weather. The one who can do that is already free of what the rest are running from.
The wound is where the light enters. What breaks you open is not the interruption of the path, it is the path.
